Mittelgebirgsbahn

Starting point: Stubaitalbahnhof, Innsbruck.

Line 6 (Innsbruck Mittelgebirgsbahn) was built in 1900 by the city of Innsbruck. The low mountain railway in the south-east of Innsbruck, also called the ‘Igler’ because of its terminus in Igls, was opened in 1900. At that time it was mainly tourism that demanded such a connection. Many Innsbruck residents had built houses on the Paschberg or wanted to continue up the Patscherkofel.

Starting from the terminus of Line 1 Bergisel, the line, often affectionately called the “forest tram”, winds its way through the forests above Innsbruck to the low mountain plateau and on to the Innsbruck district of Igls. Line 6 runs daily between 6:00 and 18:00, between May and October until about 20:00. Departures from Bergisel are every 17th minute, departures from Igls every 48th minute. Get off at the “Lanser See” station and enjoy one of the most beautiful Tyrolean mountain lakes.
